The Basics of the Job Search

For those of you college students new to the game of searching for a college internship or a full time position, you may be wondering…

            “Where do I start?”
“What the heck is going on here?”
“What am I supposed to do?”

I remember thinking exactly that during my first career fair Freshman year. I had no idea what I was supposed to do, let alone how to succeed in how to find a job. This article is designed to explain exactly that.  The basic framework of the job search!

First off, you’re not alone in being inexperienced, and so by reading this before you begin, you give yourself a dramatic leg up on everyone else who is trying to “wing it.”  You should feel good about the fact that you are proactively learning.

Let’s get to it.  There are several different steps to the recruiting process (Click each one to read about it!):

            1) Career Fair
            2) Company Info Sessions
            3) Internal School Job Posting Website
            4) External Job Posting Websites
            5) Company Websites
            6) Personal Contacts

If you dont know where to start, I suggest reading through the Career Fair first.
